In September of 2017 Wilcox Tavern opened its doors again under the new ownership of Mia Byrnes. Having been closed for a few years it has gone a bit under the radar. Located on route 1 in Charlestown, Wilcox Tavern has a main house which dates back to 1730. It is cozy and charming and the absolute perfect spot to head to for comfort food at its best during the upcoming winter months. When the tavern originally opened it was a place for travelers to stop, have a meal and rest up for the remainder of their journey. Today, it is a great place to disconnect and enjoy the company of friends and family. Whether you are having a full meal or enjoying tavern time at the bar, Wilcox Tavern will not disappoint. Open Wednesday-Sunday starting at 3pm, the best part about Wilcox Tavern is that although many of the menu items stay the same, there are specials daily to keep you coming back.
The 1730 Stanton Special is a two course dinner for $17.30 offered from 3-6PM. There is an Old Tyme Classic Dinner every night and one of the best date night options is Tavern Time from 3-6 featuring cocktails, beer, wine and snacks for $7.30 or less. We love the whimsy of how the 1730 concept is tied into Wilcox Tavern updating history while giving it a true nod.
“Our menu is from a scratch kitchen, Chef Jerry and his team take pride in their skills and create fresh comfort food for all. We have a variety of items to choose from. We offer New England Classics from Fried Calamari and Stuffed Quahogs to Tavern Garlic Bread and our amazing Salumi Boards to delicious Burgers (the best burger you will ever have!!) to the memorable “Rudy’s” Pot Roast and Stuffed Codfish, Local Scallops and Filet Mignon to 28 day Dry-Aged Steaks and Prime Rib on the weekends. We primarily range from $5- $29. To see a FULL menu, please visit our website.”
As with so many of our local favorites, Wilcox Tavern needs the support of the community to remain open in the winter months. Here at Westerly Food we have made an effort to eat local, shop local and support local as often as possible. By doing the same, our lovely little community will continue to grow and prosper. We are so fortunate here to have great shops, a variety of restaurants and gorgeous views. If you have a restaurant you would like us to feature don’t hesitate to reach out! We’d love to hear from you.
